I’ve written this as I know you enjoy the sage ceremony on class . I tend to buy the Californian white sage from Etsy.
For a yoga ceremony inspired by Village Rose-style gatherings—gentle, soulful, feminine, and intentional—you might introduce Californian White Sage as a ritual of transition, purification, and presence.
Why White Sage?
Californian White Sage (Salvia apiana) has been used traditionally for ceremonial cleansing and prayer. When used respectfully and mindfully, it can become a beautiful way to mark the beginning of a yoga practice, meditation, full moon circle, or seasonal gathering.
Benefits of White Sage
🌿 Creates a Sacred Pause
The act of lighting sage encourages us to slow down and arrive fully in the moment.
🌿 Energetic Clearing
Many people feel it helps clear stagnant energy from a room, creating a sense of freshness and renewal.
🌿 Supports Intention Setting
The ritual naturally invites reflection. As the smoke rises, practitioners often focus on what they wish to release and what they wish to welcome.
🌿 Calming Aroma
The earthy scent can help settle the nervous system, reduce feelings of overwhelm, and prepare the mind for meditation.
🌿 Air Purification
Research suggests that medicinal smoke may reduce some airborne bacteria and microbes when used in a ventilated space.
🌿 Symbolic Release
The smoke becomes a visual reminder of letting go—old stories, worries, habits, expectations, and emotional clutter.
A Village Rose-Inspired Home Sage Ceremony
Find a quiet space. Open a window or door.
Light your sage bundle and gently blow out the flame so that it smoulders.
Hold the bundle over a fireproof dish and take three slow breaths.
You may wish to say:
“May this space be cleared of all that no longer serves.
May peace enter.
May clarity enter.
May love remain.”
Slowly walk around the room, allowing the smoke to drift into corners, around doorways, and near windows.
As you move, reflect upon:
What am I ready to release?
What am I ready to welcome?
What needs my attention?
What wants to bloom?
Return to your seat.
Place the sage safely in a bowl and allow it to extinguish naturally.
Rest your hands on your heart.
Closing Affirmation
“I release what has passed.
I trust what is unfolding.
I welcome what is becoming.
I am rooted, open, and at peace.”
Finish with a few moments of silence, meditation, journaling, or a gentle yoga practice.
For Full Moon Gatherings or women’s circles
White sage pairs beautifully with:
Candle lighting
Rose petals
Journaling
Breathwork
Yoga Nidra
Sound baths
Moon water rituals
Gratitude practices
The intention is not simply to clear a room, but to create a sanctuary—an invitation to come home to yourself. 🌙✨
